Welcome to The FilmLoft!
The name is no accident. After forty years of a burning passion for cinema, my mind has become a sort of archive—an attic filled to the brim with movies, scenes, characters, and thoughts. For years, these thoughts have found their way onto platforms like Bluesky, Twitter, Reddit, and Instagram. But one dream has always been there: to create a dedicated home for this passion for film.
The FilmLoft is the realization of that dream. This is my personal film diary—a place where I can explore and share the analyses, reflections, and pure joy I find in the art of cinema. At the same time, an attic is rarely a place you visit entirely alone. That’s why The FilmLoft is also an open door for my fellow film friends—talented writers and enthusiasts who want to share their perspectives as guests. In other words, you’ll encounter multiple voices in here.
You might notice that many of my reviews come out a while after the theatrical release. That’s a deliberate choice. As a film lover living out in the countryside, I’ve specialized in the great home cinema experience. I believe a movie truly shows its true colors when it can be watched away from the opening-weekend hype, on a great 4K screen, where you can study the craftsmanship. The Film Loft is therefore a tribute to cinema the way we experience it most of the time: at home.
And what does the future hold? Perhaps the crackle of an old film projector will be replaced by the sound of a microphone. A podcast is absolutely part of the vision for the road ahead. Thanks for stopping by the loft. I hope you find something that engages, inspires, or sparks a new film discussion.
NEW!: Guest and Writing Partner: Thor “Ator” Dahlstrøm
We met in the year of our Lord 1982—in elementary school (the same class) in Herøy, out on the windswept coast of Sunnmøre. It didn’t take long before we started talking—film talk, that is. We were bitten by the movie bug at the exact same time, down at the video store at Eggesbønes. Ator had one major advantage: he lived just a stone’s throw away!
Throughout elementary and middle school, it was only natural to hang out at the shop in our free time, always staying up to date on what was on the shelves. Movies were our life.
Since 1982, we’ve talked movies. For the most part. Even after we grew up. On top of that, Ator has a very special superpower: his super-memory! He simply remembers everything I’ve forgotten. Now, he has written so much gold here on The FilmLoft that it’s only right he gets his proper place on the “About” page.
