Som ein del av vår store John Carpenter-månad her på Filmloftet, der vi hyllar regissøren i heile september, bestemte eg meg for å prøve noko heilt vilt. Omtrent samstundes som vi sparka i gang maratonet, tok eg kontakt med teamet til John Carpenter der eg stilte tre kjappe spørsmål.

Q&A With Carpenter

Filmloftet: It was a stroke of genius to include the Norwegian camp in The Thing. Speaking of Norway, what do you remember from playing your music live for a crowd of «crazy Swedes» in Oslo back in 2016?

John Carpenter: «That was one of the great shows of our tour. The fans were fanatic for our music, which delighted all of us to no end.»

Filmloftet: Cathedral is an absolutely fantastic album. How does the creative process work when you compose together with Cody and Daniel today compared to your earlier solo work?

John Carpenter: «Composing music with Cody and Daniel is much more fulfilling to me personally. We now work in depth, bringing different skills to the table. I’m particularly pleased with the way this album turned out.»

Filmloftet: Filmloftet is deeply dedicated to the VHS era and the magic of the 80s. Looking back, what is your personal favorite decade for cinema, and is there one specific lesser-known movie you think our Norwegian readers should seek out?

John Carpenter: «My favorite decade for movies would be the 1950s. I was growing up then and I found my muse and my future inside the movie theater. Only Angels Have Wings from 1939 would be my film recommendation for anyone who hasn’t seen it.»
